TOn the first light of dawn the police arrested 12 people, 10 in prison and two under house arrest. The suspects are accused of illicit production, trafficking and possession of narcotic substances in the municipalities of San Nicandro Garganico, Apricena, Cagnano Varano and Campomarino.
The investigation, launched in 2022, arose from an investigative activity carried out by the San Severo police station with the collaboration of the Foggia flying squad and made it possible to collect serious indications of guilt against the 12.
In fact, the recipients of the precautionary measure showed – according to the prosecution – a marked delinquent capacity due to the “modus operandi” through which the transfer, or in any case the offer to third parties, of doses of narcotic substances took place. In particular, large quantities of narcotics were allegedly sold inside a house located in Campomarino, pocketing large profits on a daily basis, also through the transfer of the substance to buyers from neighboring countries. Furthermore, in all points considered strategic, people would have been constantly stationed with the task of checking for the presence of any policemen who could “disturb” the drug dealing activities. The squares, probably used for the purchase and sale of narcotic substances, were chosen in contexts in which the presence of foreigners was noted with a certain ease.
In addition to this, quick appointments were arranged with regular users to whom they would deliver portions of the drug daily in ever-changing places to evade any checks by the police forces.
The activity carried out this morning involved the staff of the San Severo police station, the Foggia flying squad, the Crime Prevention Department, as well as dog units and a helipad.
“Today’s epilogue of the investigative activity testifies to the constant commitment of the State Police in an area characterized by particular social alarm in relation to the crime of drug dealing.
The case is pending at the preliminary investigation stage. It should be specified – the police recall in a note – that the position of the people involved in the aforementioned police operations is being examined by the judicial authorities and that they cannot be considered guilty until a final conviction has been pronounced”.
