The traditional Via Crucis of Monza will take place for the first time inside the San Gerardo hospital on the occasion of Good Friday. The appointment is for the evening of Friday 29 March, at 8.45pm, in via Pergolesi. The entrance for the faithful is from the reception building, the cup area. From there you can follow the signs for blocks C and D. In the middle of the two corridors there are accesses to the internal garden of the hospital. There, even in case of bad weather and rain, the via crucis organized for the entire deanery of Monza (which includes the capital city, Brugherio and Villasanta) will take place.

The choice is part of the celebrations for the 850th anniversary of the hospital’s foundation and within the Holy Year program dedicated precisely to the figure of Saint Gerard of the Dyers. «We wanted to complete the Gerardian year with this via crucis, in a highly symbolic place like the hospital“, explains Don Riccardo Brenawith Don Massimo Pirovano managers of the San Gerardo hospital parish.
There won’t be a path as usually on the occasion of the city’s Via Crucis. The faithful will be asked to stop inside the hospital garden and here, guided by the archpriest of Monza, Monsignor Silvano Provasi, they will listen and meditate on five of the stations of the cross.
«Attention will be paid to the characters who populate the Via Crucis in addition to Jesus – explains Don Riccardo -. We will therefore focus on the stations that contemplate the meeting of the Lord with the women of Jerusalem, with Veronica, the Cyrenean and his mother Mary until the crucifixion: all the characters who accompany Jesus along the way to Calvary».

They will also be proposed testimonies from doctors and nurses at the hospital, who will tell of the moments and circumstances in which they met the Lord in the ward. «We asked five of them to tell their experience, the moment in which they perceived the encounter with Jesus in contact with patients and their families» concludes Don Riccardo.
Monza: Saturday morning prayer walk in via Guarenti
Another community, that of the Holy Four Evangelists, offers a different moment of prayer for the morning of Holy Saturday. The group “Women at dawn” proposes a prayer journey open to all. The appointment is for Saturday 30 March, at 5.30, at the Romanian Orthodox church in via Guarenti. «It will be a journey made of silence, listening and waiting – explain the organizers – We will try to look for God in the places of the city to reach the church of Sant’Alessandro and there experience an intimate moment of adoration of the cross».
