In these days of Easter in Campania 266 thousand tourists are expected and will be implemented business for around 92 million. Estimates from the Confesercenti study center indicate that the filling percentage of the 12 thousand accommodation facilities (2,200 hotel, 10 thousand non-hotel) is 89 percent, a figure which is also growing with last minute deals. Around 48 million is the turnover from overnight stays, which rises to 92 million through related activities. Vincenzo Schiavo, president of Confesercenti Campania and national vice-president with responsibility for the South, notes that «tourism has reached the outskirts. In fact, we record staggering occupancy percentages even in accommodation facilities in areas as far away as 15 kilometers from the city centre.”
In Naples
The president of Federalberghi is less satisfied, Toto Naldi. According to industry studies in Naples employment is 80 percent. In short, there is a slight decrease compared to 2023 and it is far from 89 percent of 2019. There will therefore be around 30 thousand overnight stays over the Easter weekend and tourists will be predominantly Italians (about 60 percent). Among foreigners, Americans stand out. «Now we need to work in synergy with the institutions, discussing the strategies to be adopted to improve the welcome of our guests – underlines Naldi -, a job that above all concerns services at the gateways to the city. We discussed productively with the Municipality, asking for the creation of fixed police forces and an increase in sweeping and waste collection. We appreciated Councilor Baretta’s work in combating tax evasion, but this is only a starting point. It is essential to continue in this direction and guarantee quality in reception facilities and services to those who choose Naples for their holidays.”
Transports
During Easter the public transport network will be more robust than in the past. Metro Line 1, funiculars and road transport they will not stop on Easter Sunday, with the exception of a stop in the early afternoon hours. The ANM informs that for the Metro line 1 the suspension is scheduled for 1.30pm and the afternoon reopening will take place with the first ride from Piscinola at 4.50pm. The Central and Montesanto funicular will have the first ride scheduled for 7am and the last one before the suspension at 1.30pm , while the afternoon reopening will take place with the first ride at 4.30pm and the last at 11.30pm. For the Mergellina funicular, first ride at 7am, last ride at 1.30pm with closing in the afternoon. The lifts will be in service on Easter from 7am to 1.30pm, while the Alibus line will operate as usual. The Municipality then arranged, in agreement with the unions, the organization of reinforcement shifts and the suspension, on a voluntary basis, of the weekly rest of taxi drivers of the taxi service for tomorrow, Sunday and Monday. In short, the number of taxis in circulation during the holidays will increase: potentially approximately 350 more taxis will be in circulation Saturday and Sunday, while on Monday and Tuesday there will potentially be 120 more taxis in the morning.
Comparison with other cities
TO Milan, for this Easter, the presence of tourists is estimated to be 3 percent more than in 2023, and 29 percent more than in 2019: over 307 thousand people are expected. Also to Florence there is an estimated increase of 3 percent for foreign tourists, against a decrease of 1.1 percent for Italian ones. In absolute values, the presences in accommodation facilities would stand at 868 thousand, of which 403 thousand Italians and 465 thousand foreigners.
