Maybe it’s the secretary Elly Schlein she hasn’t been seen in the company of yet Gianna Pentenero, to officially launch the race. Perhaps it is because the perimeter of the coalition has not yet been traced precisely, with the extreme wing of the Green and Left Alliance still hoping for a rethinking of the 5 Stars and therefore for an alternative name capable of convincing the M5S at the last minute. The fact is that the operational indications coming from the top levels of the Democratic Party have left more than a few candidates perplexed: «For the moment, use the party symbol in your election posters. Without names.” That is, without the indication of the anti-Cirio identified two weeks ago by the regional assembly of the party.
Someone saw in this position an open window for a rethink in case he had to the wide field hypothesis is back in vogue. Someone else – a much more probable hypothesis – the perpetuation of that wavering attitude and hostage to the internal struggles between currents that has characterized the decisions of the Nazarene in recent months, up to the “Vietnam” of recent days on the composition of the lists and the dispute over the re-nomination (blocked by the Bonaccini wing) of the Schleinian exponent and former surgeon Mauro Salizzoni.
The only certainty (at least at the moment) is that Pentenero struggles to fuel. Not only has she not entered the field yet against the outgoing governor Alberto Cirio, who instead is active as never before and already has his list ready. But she was unable, the other evening during the regional direction, to even indicate the name of the candidate for councilor that the Turin Democratic Party decided to reserve for her. For that place she would have thought of a representative of foreign communities but at the moment it seems that it has not yet received availability. Therefore, the lists of Piedmontese candidates were approved with one vacant position.
Meanwhile, also on a communication level the Democratic Party candidate appears to be out of the way. Not even the shadow of a manifesto, few statements to the press, no direct controversy with what his challenger should represent. Indeed, he even went so far as to anticipate it, overtaking it on the left, announcing that he will participate with the insignia of the Piedmont Region in the demonstration on 12 April in defense of the future of Mirafiori.
