Murgia Timone, spectacular view: 180 riders and riders against the backdrop of the Sassi for the twenty-second National Horseback Riding Gathering of the City of Matera and Basilicata 2024

“The twenty-second National Nature on Horseback Meeting of the City of Matera and Basilicata 2024 was spectacular, beautiful because the territories really lend themselves to equestrian tourism: they are uncontaminated and you can feel the freedom to roam. The final postcard on the Sassi of Matera was the icing on the cake.” These are the words of the national president of Natura a Cavallo, Mauro Ferrari, at the end of the three days on horseback in the area between Matera, the Natural Historical Archaeological Park of the Rock Churches of Materano and the Regional Park of Gallipoli Cognato and Piccole Dolomiti Lucane.

In a route included in the Calendar of events organized by Natura a Cavallo in Italian protected natural areas, 180 riders and riders from all over Italy, together with the twinned members of the German VFD equestrian tourism association, were on the Belvedere of Murgia Timone – protected area of the Regional Archaeological, Historical and Natural Park of the Rupestrian Churches of Matera – where they met the mayor of Matera Domenico Bennardi and handed over the baton to the institutional representatives of Marino, in the province of Rome, a candidate city for the XXIII National NAC Gathering “Roma in Jubilee 2025”.

Last April 25th the members of Natura a Cavallo stopped in the railway village of Scalo Grassano – Garaguso – Tricarico and then visited Garaguso, the ruins of Calciano and Tricarico.
