The goal is ambitious. Alberto Cirio would have revealed it to his closest collaborators just in these days, after having had his creation tested by pollsters: arriving at least 10% with the president’s civic list. So as to reach a double goal: asserting oneself personally, without having to hold the centre-right parties accountablestarting with the super favorites Brothers of Italy; and broaden the perimeter of the coalition to that “moderate” and “liberal” electorate that would never vote for Meloni or Salvini’s League.
To achieve this goal, the outgoing president deploys a list of doctors – many doctors -, mayors from all over Piedmont and orphaned centrists from the third pole formations. A fierce team that will race under the blue insignia of the «Cirio Presidente» formationwhose symbol was made public yesterday, and which was born under the auspices of high-profile godmothers and godfathers, such as Franca Fagioli, head physician at the Regina Margherita hospitalthe Alexandrian oncologist Paola Varesethe number one family doctor Roberto Venesia, the secretary of the pediatrician federation Giuseppe Palena, the former director of the Novara hospital Mario Minola and Michele Colaci, national president of Confapi Salute. Not all, but many of them will be candidates.
As well as representatives of the world of volunteering, healthcare and local mayors: from Silvio Magliano of the Moderates a Enrico Delmirani from Turin Beautiful, from Gian Luca Vignale of «Piedmont in the heart» to Vittorio Montabone for the Catholic-popular formation of Giorgio Merlo, up to Rita Ladu of Azione. Also part of Calenda’s lineup are Antonio Zacchera, Vco entrepreneur, and Luigi Fiorio, former mayor of Asti. Among the promoters also the president of the province of Cuneo Luca Robaldo and the mayor of Asti Maurizio Rasero. The common objective: «Broaden consensus beyond the center-right parties».
