Caltanissetta. IPM, for the first time hands over the keys to the Captain of the Real Maestranza: message of ‘hope’ – il Fatto Nisseno

Hope is a loan made to happiness” wrote Antoine Rivaroli and today a ‘key’ was dressed as auspicious in the ceremony held at the IPM in Caltanissetta, in which the director (Dr. Viviana Savarino) ‘symbolically’ handed over the key to the Captain of the Real Maestranza, the barber Edoardo Cammarata.

It was the first time this significant ‘feature’ was at IPM; until now it had only been carried out in the “Malaspina” prison, the one for ‘adults’. A symbolic passage, because in the past the captain had the power to free a prisoner.

The Real Maestranza, which has already actively worked in the structure of minors with meritorious commitment in the past, has decided to take a further step to allow these children to experience a moment, a fragment of normality and of that magical atmosphere that envelops the “Week Santa” of Caltanissetta.

A journey that has already begun with one of the boys who marched on Wednesday morning with the Real Maestranza and who this morning with his “ordinance” suit and bow tie posed, with proud dignity, for the souvenir photo. A photo that has a value that goes far beyond the shot and his incisive words animated the image: “Thanks to the director, thanks to everyone, to each of you, thanks for this chance, for this opportunity, to be different, better, to put myself on the good side”

Then came the long-awaited moment of immortalising the moment, with the entire delegation made up of the Scudiero Vincenzo Alaimo, the Major Ensign Fabrizio Giarratana, the historic Flag Bearer Franco Liuzzo, the president of the Real Maestranza Giuseppe Tumminelli, the captain emeritus of the category barbers Gioacchino Ricotta and the Master of Ceremonies Giuseppe Fiocco.

The IPM courtyard was packed with staff, led by the department commander Sebastiano Spanò, who joyfully wanted to participate in the event. Cettina Bellia, USSM director, also spoke.

Present for the Juvenile Court were the president Umberto Zingales, the supervisory magistrate Roberta Pettineo and the deputy prosecutor Valentina Tornatore.

A spring and conciliatory sun caressed this unusual glimpse of normality in a place “marked” by gates and railings that seem to touch the sky and cage thoughts, even before bodies.

The boys, with vivid curiosity, listened to the historical notes on the history of the Royal Maestranza and tried to ‘understand’ every little detail about what happens outside those walls, about the many ceremonies of the capital of Nisseno.

Viviana Savarino, the director, underlined: “Manual work, the teachings of master craftsmen, give these kids a heritage that supports, that manages to sustain, even the most fragile. It allows them to detach themselves from negative thoughts, to channel their energies into using their hands, and acquire a wealth of knowledge. Thanks to the Real Maestranza for your work which we appreciate very much.”

Knowledge, learning, new life perspectives as President Zingales also wanted to highlight: “For these young people who live in a difficult situation, we hope this activity can intensify and allow them to leave the prison environment. I extend a special greeting to these children so that they can resume the life they deserve as soon as possible. ‘Start living again”.

Roberta Pettineo: “I see this boy who has already paraded and I hope he can be a driving force for his companions for a new, honest and better future than today”.

Valentina Tornatore: “Passing on traditions is a strong message, that there is something different outside. It is a challenge to face, there may be a different path.”
