CARPI – The artist Andrea Saltini, author of the controversial exhibition “Gratia Plena”, exhibited in the church of Sant’Ignazio in Carpi, was attacked this morning, Thursday 28 March. As reported by Modenaindiretta, in fact, Saltini was at the inside the church when he was hit in the neck and scarred by a person who was holding a knife. A work by the artist was also vandalized and defaced. On site, in addition to the 118 paramedics, who took Saltini to hospital, from which he was discharged shortly afterwards, fortunately as it was nothing serious, the Carabinieri and the Police also intervened.

The. intervened on the case PD with a press note:

“We deliberately never entered into the discussions of the past few weeks, but now the measure is full: after the very serious event that occurred today at the Church hosting the exhibition, and the wounding of the artist Andrea Saltini, to whom all our solidarity and best wishes for a speedy recovery go, the time has come to say enough: when words become turns to violence, we cannot remain silent.” So the secretary of Democratic Party of Carpi, Daniela Depietri

“We claim – continues the secretary – the defense of democracy and freedom of expression, always respecting the thoughts of others, and of course the safety of others, as founding and essential values ​​of our civil coexistence. However, when words become inflammatory, full of delegitimization and hatred, the risk of giving rise to the actions of some violent individual becomes all too real, as today’s events have sadly demonstrated. The police will do their job, but from civil society, united, one voice is raised: long live freedom, against all fanaticism”.
