Yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 27 March, the bishop of Como, card. Oscar Cantoni led the Via Crucis celebrated in the multipurpose hall of the Bassone prison in Como.
To welcome the cardinal were the prison chaplain, Father Zeno Carcereri, with the commander Maria Cristina Cobetto Ghiggia – also on behalf of the prison director Fabrizio Rinaldi – together with the prison police staff, educators, operators and volunteers.

The texts of the meditations were the result of a choral work, which involved the young people of the Episcopal Seminary of Como (also present at the celebration of the Via Crucis), the prisoners, the volunteers and the chaplain.

“This moment of prayer of ours – said the card. Cantoni – is like a hand extended towards each of you, so that you open your heart to let yourself be saved by Jesus who came to give us the fullness of life”. “Mercy is the greatest gift we can ask for – was the bishop’s recommendation -. The mystery of Easter means knowing how to see the salvation that is given to us: it is through this gesture of the Son that we discover the infinite love of God the Father for us… A Father of whom Jesus is a living image”.
It was an intense and participatory moment. Many themes were touched upon in the reflections: pain and awareness of the harm done, anguish for loved ones, the desire for forgiveness and redemption.
