“A lump on the neck, on the left was the first alarm. They subjected me to a biopsy under local anesthesia: two hours of suffering because it was branched, deep and not easy to reach. Then a few days passed without them letting me know anything. Yet, it was ’72, I was in the hands of the great Roman surgeon Paride Stefanini. Maybe they wanted to be sure before telling me the diagnosis: a papillary thyroid carcinoma” this is how Pippo Baudo tells what happened.
At the time, Pippo Baudo was treated with drugs based on thyroid hormones extracted from pig pituitary glands to prepare for surgeryas he reports in his article for aimec.it, Rossella Castelnuovo in an interview with the host of January 31, 2001.
