Rome, 1 July. – Sicily, with its magic and its colours, cradle of Mediterranean culture, hosts the fifth edition of the Italian Film Festival, an important international festival of cinema and beyond.
Actress Ornella Muti will be the godmother of the “Made in Sicily” Film Festival, which will take place starting this evening with the final evenings, scheduled for Friday 5th and Saturday 6th, hosted in the evocative setting of the Greek Theatre of Tindari.
Ornella Muti, one of the most acclaimed Italian actresses of international fame, will also receive a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award during the event.
Not just cinema, but a lot of culture will characterize the fifth edition of the Festival.
Ample space will be given to literature with the presentation of books by Liana Orfei, Pino Ammendola and Biagio Maimone.
The journalist Maimone this evening, at 7.30 pm, in the Hotel Club La Playa, in Patti Marina, on the opening evening of the Italian Film Festival, will present his book “Creative communication for socio-humanitarian development” sponsored by the institute Italian Culture of New York.
The moderator will be film critic Claudio Gentile (Rai Cinema-Sncci), as well as Artistic Director of the Italian Film Festival and face of Rai Offerta Estero.
In his book, the journalist highlights the need to create a new communication model that places human relationships at the center and, even more, the moral and human emancipation of today’s society.

The program of the Italian Film Festival is noteworthy, ranging from screenings, meetings, debates and masterclasses and featuring actors, producers, directors and screenwriters, critics and voice actors. The long-awaited meeting with Chiara Colizzi, the historic voice of, among many, Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet and Penelope Cruz, is dedicated to dubbing. Set up for the occasion, at Palazzo Galvagno and Palazzo San Francesco, the collective exhibition “Art & Cinema – The great beauty”, with painters from all over the world. Among the strong points of the program there is the grand “Stelle d’Argento” awards gala, which will be held at the Greek Theater of Tindari, which will see, in the guise of hostess, the popular Rai presenter Roberta Ammendola, with the production television of Dante Mariti’s Melos International, which will involve faces loved by the public and professionals who have obtained excellent feedback thanks to cinematographic works, feature films and shorts, documentaries from independent productions and from the majors of world cinema. Numerous guests have already confirmed their participation, including Anna Galiena and Brian Cox.
Recognition of cultural value to Liana Orfei, undisputed queen of the circus, to Pietro Genuardi for the great success of “Il Paradiso delle Signore”. The jury is prestigious, with Katia Ricciarelli as Honorary President and Jim Sheridan for the international section, and also Vincent Riotta, Nancy Bishop, Michelle Danner, Pino Amendola, Margot Sikabonyi, Katia Nani, Mariella Anziano, Biagio Maimone, Chiara Colizzi, Dante Mariti, Mirko Alivernini for the web section. All without ever forgetting the traditions and values of a land, Sicily, which gave birth to characters and workers who have written its history. Dedicated to the excellence of the territory is the Tindarys award, scheduled for Friday 5 July, again at the Greek Theater of Tindari: the evening will be led by Giusy Venuti and Beppe Convertini.
The new Artistic Director of the Italian Film Festival is Carlo Gentile, film critic (Sncci) and face of Rai Offerta Estero.
During the event, cinema will be represented as a tool for raising awareness for the protection of the ecosystem. Among the projects presented is “I prefer the noise of the sea”, documentaries made by Moroccan directors in collaboration with protagonists of Italian cinema, representatives of countries that share “the same sea”. And the sea will be at the center of “Only One”, the campaign launched by Marevivo, Marina Militare and Fondazione Dohrn on the ecological transition on board the training ships Palinuro and Vespucci, under the high patronage of the European Parliament and the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and the Ministry for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies.
