To celebrate the release of the new film “Inside Out 2” and the new characters in the story, Disney Italia has created a special project on the splendid island of Burano, involving its colorful houses and the canals they overlook with a super fun project. In recent days, in fact, giant installations dedicated to the new characters of the film, Ansia, Invidia, Ennui and Embarrassment, have “popped up”.

The installations for “Inside Out 2”

“New Emotions in Burano” is an all-Italian tribute to the film. Local artists and artisans collaborated to create a large site-specific installation, creating a union between the colors of the individual characters in the film and those typical of the already lively local architecture. The installations, spread across various corners of the village, were created with recycled materials and with low environmental impact, designed to be perfectly integrated into the context, unique in the world, of the island of Burano, colored during the day and illuminated at night through LED systems low consumption.

This is obviously a temporary installation, which has left even the inhabitants of the village astonished as well as the numerous tourists who animate it every day, a tribute to the film and its protagonists, but also to the creativity of the island, a pearl of our heritage, and its beauty, with its lively little squares, canals and narrow streets. The project was created thanks to the support of the Venice Film Commission and the Municipality of Venice.

Why visit Burano

Needless to say, anyone wanting to take a trip to Burano these days would find it even more beautiful. Historically, these three islands were the gateway to the Roman city of Altino, abandoned at the time of the barbarian invasions and which, for over seven centuries, lived in the shadow of Venice, however enjoying a fair amount of autonomy from the end of the thirteenth century. which even allowed it to mint its own currency. Its name actually derives from Boreana, bora, the powerful north-east wind. Until the year 1000, on the island of Burano there were only stilt houses and huts made of reeds and mud. The artisanal activity of lacefor which the island became famous throughout Europe, was introduced by Venice between the 12th and 13th centuries. A legend tells that Burano lace actually originated from the sea foam hit by the tail of a mermaid encountered by a Burano merchant in the East, so great was the enthusiasm for the softness of this finely embroidered fabric. The fortune and development of the island never experienced any setbacks, thanks also to the fact that it is particularly windy, as its name suggests. This essentially allowed Burano to keep malaria away and to prosper. Even today the historic center of Burano it is divided into its five medieval districts: San Martino Destro and Sinistro, San Mauro, Giudecca and Terranova. The heart of the island is Piazza Baldassarre Galuppi, built by burying one of the canals that still cross it.
