The illustrator Massimiliano Aurelio has died

He died at the age of 43 from an illness Maximilian Aurelius, illustrator and art director, among the most interesting names in contemporary Italian illustration. Born in Taranto, after studying art and illustration at the IED in Rome and then settling in Milan, where he worked as a freelancer for over a decade. He was one of the most refined illustrators, with a clear sign, a little retro and at the same time a little French.

Not for nothing is one of the glossiest magazines in the world, Monoclehas entrusted its cover to him more than once.

His imagery has always been striking for its lightheartedness: illustrations of distant worlds, sudden loves, joy of living. He collaborated with Mondadori, The sun 24 hours, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, Wired and he was also the author of several covers for the Gedi group, in particular for Health Republic, Green&Blue, Taste And Business&Finance. He had recently exhibited one of his illustrations at Casa Testori in Milan depicting the famous Testorian character of Maria Brasca.

Those who worked with him have always appreciated his great willingness to understand and delve deeper into the themes he had to deal with. He leaves us his drawings, his covers, a passion and a strong determination for the illustrator’s work. A wonderful image creator who will be greatly missed by the Italian scene.
