Antonio Scurati replies to Rai CEO Sergio on the Bortone case and the monologue on April 25th: very harsh attack

Writer Antonio Scurati he responded harshly to what the CEO of Rai said Roberto Sergio on the Serena Bortone case and, in particular, on his monologue on April 25th which should have been broadcast on Rai3 in the program ‘Chesarà…’ and which was then cancelled.

Scurati’s response to Rai CEO Sergio

In some statements reported by the ‘ANSA’ agency, Antonio Scurati stated: “I categorically deny the Rai CEO’s statement according to which I would not have participated in Serena Bortone’s program because ‘I wasn’t paid’. AND simply false. It is theyet another denigrating statement towards me. No one has ever offered me to participate for free. I challenge him to provide proof to the contrary.”

Scurati again: “I won’t go into the merits of the internal convulsions of a company evidently in disarray, whose managers exercise ‘suffocating pressure’ on freedom of information (It’s not my opinion, it’s a quote from an official statement from the main journalists’ union of that same company). I would never have returned to the topic – and after all it wasn’t me who denounced the censorship but once again a Rai journalist. However, I must defend – here and possibly in the appropriate legal venues – my reputation.”

His reconstruction of the facts: “I reiterate that the Rai3 program Chesarà commissioned me to write a monologue about a month in advance, ensuring that I had full freedom on form and content. The economic agreement, perfectly in line with that of the writers who preceded me, had already been closed for several days, the train tickets and the hotel reservation had already been sent to me by the Rai offices (I can prove this). Only then, on the very morning of my participation, after I had sent the text of my speech – with which, it is essential to remember, I raised embarrassing questions for the head of government – when I already had my bags packed, was I informed that the my contract was cancelled.”

In his long reply to Rai CEO Sergio, Scurati also said: “I no longer tolerate being slandered accusing me of veniality to divert attention from the real issue. Especially from the top management of a company, Rai, which gives an influencer and rapper of dubious morality several tens of thousands of euros to give interviews about her marriage. The compensation that Rai had agreed with the agency that represents me did not just reward a short original text but the 2000 pages I wrote on the subject of fascism in 4 substantial volumes, translated, read and praised all over the world”.

The final attack on Roberto Sergio: “In any field, adequate economic recognition is given to a professional career. The CEO of Rai – often defined as the largest cultural company in the country – demonstrates, however, that he does not want to recognize the value of cultural work. He thus demonstrates that he despises culture. Allow me to note that this vulgar contempt makes it totally inadequate for the important role it covers“.

Antonio Scurati’s phrase on Giorgia Meloni

Antonio Scurati’s response to Rai CEO Sergio ends with a thought dedicated to the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni: “I must also note that this smoke screen, raised by bogus and misleading arguments, once again achieves the effect of allowing the prime minister to Don’t answer the embarrassing questions I raised in the monologue that Rai had commissioned from me and which then did not allow me to read”.
