Sophia Loren, on the threshold of 90 years, still has a long road ahead of him with many things to do. The Neapolitan actress who is in Los Angeles, reached on the phone by Vogue America, he said in his first interview international after years of silence that «I still see a long road ahead of me with many things to do, places to see, people to meet». Age, she added, “is a state of mind,” although she would like “my knees and my back to feel the same, because they are the only ones that remind me that I am my age.”
The birthday and the trip to Los Angeles
The icon of Italian cinema, who will have her birthday on September 20th (she was born in 1934), seems to have recovered from the bad fall in her bathroom dating back to a year ago which broke her femur (a few days after her birthday , among other things), as well as causing several hip fractures. Since her fall and emergency surgery for multiple fractures, Loren has been seeing a physiotherapist five days a week to stay fit and continue the life she had before, despite now walking around with a cane.
She flew from her home in Switzerland to Los Angeles to celebrate the birthday and graduation of her niece, Lucia Sofia Ponti, daughter of Edoardo and actress Sasha Alexander. Her career was recently celebrated in the United States with a thirteen-film retrospective, “Sophia Loren: The Lady of Naples,” at Lincoln Center in New York, co-hosted by the Italian film organization Cinecittà (7 to 13 June). “Being able to share these moments of my life with everyone touches me deeply,” she commented.

Although she admits that she is not “the type to dwell on the past”, and tends to focus on the present and future, the actress told Vogue that “each film was a unique adventure”.

For Ponti, Loren is a loving mother. «Her greatest desire in her life was to have a family, which is why we never felt second to anything – she reveals – she helped us center ourselves and give us the confidence needed to overcome our obstacles. Love is great armor.”
The return to the cinema
The magazine asked her son if audiences can expect to one day see Loren appear on screen again. Ponti responded that the actress “wants to continue working 100% and we are actively looking for the next project.” They want it not to be a minor work: “We need to make sure that the next step is even more fulfilling for her creatively and also for the audience.”
