The orchestra master Riccardo Muti wanted to dedicate a message to the large government delegation present at the Verona Arena for the event «The great Italian opera, a world heritage site». Attending the performance of the orchestra conducted by Muti was the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, but also the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, together with the presidents of the Chamber and Senate, Ignazio La Russa and Lorenzo Fontana, as well as the ministers Gennaro Sangiuliano , Adolfo Urso and Luca Ciriani. A parterre full of politicians, completed by the Venetian governor Luca Zaia and the mayor of Verona, Damiano Tommasi. Muti addressed them, reciting a sort of lesson: «I have said it a thousand times, but perhaps someone has missed it: the orchestra is the synonym of society. There are violins, cellos, violas, oboes, trombones… Each of them often has completely different parts, but they must all contribute to a single good, which is that of everyone’s harmony, is that clear?”. A thunderous applause started from the audience, including the royal box with the many politicians who crowded it. Muti, after a pause, adds: «There is no prevaricator, in fact many times I continue to tell my musicians that there is an impediment to the music. And he is the conductor of the orchestra.”
