Charlie Colin has died. The bassist and founder of the American band Train died after slipping while taking a shower in his home in Brussels. He was 58 years old. The musician had grown up in California and before founding Train he had played with the Apostles together with Jimmy Stafford (guitarist) and singer Rob Hotchkiss: all three formed Train in San Francisco together with singer Pat Monahan. Colin played on the band’s first three albums: Train of 1998, Drops of Jupiter of 2001 and My Private Nation of 2003. It was indeed Drops of Jupiter to consecrate the band, with the song of the same name going eight times platinum. Rolling Stones collaborator pianist Chuck Leavell and Leonard Cohen’s string orchestrator Paul Buckmaster also collaborated on that song. The bassist left the band in 2003 due to his addiction problems. In 2017, he started another band, Side Deal, with Stan Frazier of Sugar Ray and Joel and Scott Owen of PawnShop Kings.
