Professor Vincenzo Schettini, famous on social media with the page ‘The physics we like’, made his television debut with ‘The physics of love’ in the second evening of Rai2, recording excellent ratings. However, not everyone liked the new look of the professor and received criticism from TvBlog. According to the specialized site, in fact, the science communicator who exploded on social media is not convincing in his first television program: the program presents little physics content and “when the teacher shows some experiments it inevitably leads to motivational speeches worthy of an Instagram reel”. And not only that: “Ours – writes TvBlog – gesticulates heavily in front of the cameras and shows off a diction that is too influenced by his Bari origins, even if we were on Telenorba”.

Professor Schettini publishes the excerpt of the review on his social profiles and asks: “Tell me your opinion. Are accent and gestures so annoying?”. His supporters rise up and among them there are also some VIPs, such as Flora Canto (“your diction cannot be touched”) and Anna Pettinelli who writes: “Welcome to the world of TV critics. Useless poison given the results obtained. Make them talk my friend”. The late evening programme, in fact, achieved excellent ratings. The first episode alone recorded 600,000 viewers and a share of 7.3%, beating historical programs in the segment.

The social protest over the criticism led the author of the TvBlog article to clarify his words: “The undersigned, raised on bread and Telenorba, simply intended to point out a problem of proxemics in the presenter’s excessive gesticulation and diction, but he should have expressed himself better and for this he spontaneously apologizes to the reader and the professor.” However, he adds, “the professor must be reminded that on these pages people with a much more substantial CV than his have been trashed”, without publishing an excerpt of a review “giving it to their followers, with the possibility of tracing the name and surname of the author”. “Maybe the professor was in good faith, but whoever invites Big Mama to condemn bullying should keep these aspects in mind”, the author of the article complains in conclusion.
