He passed away at 88 years old Italo Ormanni, a long-time magistrate, but above all an eclectic spirit and a highly cultured personality. The former deputy prosecutor of Rome passed away in his home in the capital.
A long career with the prosecutor’s robe on his shoulders, Ormanni was born in Naples, a city he continued to love until the end. Deputy prosecutor in the Campania capital, he investigated the Camorra of the terrible years: from drug trafficking to the barrage of murders during the period in which the all-out war was underway between the clans affiliated with Raffaele Cutolo and those of the New Family.
In 1982 it was applied to the Court of Cassation. From 1984 to 1990 he was a consultant for Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission. In 1989 he was invited to the United States for a series of meetings with GoddessL’FBI and Department of Justice officials. He was a professor at the University of Naples. From 1994 to 2008 it was deputy prosecutor of Rome.
His investigations led to the identification of the perpetrators of the murder of Marta Russo, a student at the La Sapienza University of Rome, the person responsible for the murder of Mrs. Giovanna Reggiani, the murderers of Maria Grazia Cutuli, killed in Afghanistan, the members of the New Red Brigades perpetrators of the murder of the professor. Massimo D’Antona, to the members of the gang of kidnappers of the two Van Goghs and the Cezanne kept in the National Gallery of Modern Art. For the high number of works of art stolen and returned to the state heritage he was also awarded a silver medal by President of the Republic.

From 2008 to 2010 he was Head of Department at the Ministry of Justice, dealing among other things with the extradition of the terrorist Cesare Battisti, a fugitive in Brazil. He is the author of publications on criminology. From 5 September 2011 he joined the legal cast of the TV programme Forums and he is part of it until 31 May 2013. He was a technical-legal consultant for “Senza confines”, “My son”, “Salvo d’Acquisto” and script supervisor for “A testa alta” and “Boris Giuliano”, fiction aired on Rai 1.
From 1989 to 1993 he was part of the editorial team of Sergio Zavoli as a legal consultant for the programs “La notte della Repubblica”, “Journey around man”, “Journey to the South”. An ancient and profound bond of friendship also bound him to Renzo Arborefor which he carried out numerous consultancies in cinema and on TV.
