The Observatory for Rare Diseases: “It is an epochal turning point, it should also be the same for people with rare diseases who use chronic therapies”

What changes?

The over 200 antidiabetics present in the list drawn up by AIFA can be collected by patients directly in pharmacy and no longer in hospital. A decision which, according to Anna Lisa Mandorino, general secretary of Cittadinanzattiva, “meets people’s needs, because it facilitates access to the drug and the possibility of therapeutic adherence”.

In recent days, however, the hypothesis of a reversal for economic reasons had been circulating. For the observatory for rare diseases, there is no doubt, this is “an epochal turning point that would also be useful for many people with rare diseases who use chronic therapies and who currently have to go and collect them from hospital pharmacies often with significant inconvenience” .

What drugs are included in the resolution?

The binding list includes medicinal products of the gliptin class, in particular dipeptyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors in monotherapy and in combination, except those in combination with gliflozines.
