the study published in Nature

A recent American study has discovered the three-dimensional structure of proteins Klotho, clarifying their complex operating mechanism. As “Nature” reports, platelet factors, known to regulate wound healing and communicate from the blood to the brain, can also influence cognition, a fundamental brain function. The scientists ofYale University found that platelet factor 4 (PF4), when introduced into the body, crosses into the brain and improves cognitive abilities in studies done on mice. When treating young specimens with PF4, an improvement in synaptic plasticity and cognitive abilities was observed. In aged mice, PF4 reduced cognitive deficits and normalized the increase in some factors related to cognitive performance in the hippocampus. Although the benefits of klotho on cognition are also evident in mice lacking PF4, this suggests that PF4 is sufficient to improve cognition, but it is not the only factor involved.
