“Anxiety and nostalgia mix”

Florence, 17 June 2024 – My name is Yasmine and I have been enrolled at the Iitt Marco Polo in Florence since 2019. Five years of high school with ups and downs, moments of joy and difficulty, are about to end. This path has led me to grow in a way I never imagined when I crossed the threshold of school for the first time.

My entry was characterized byenthusiasm of those who are embarking on a new adventure. The initial years were a mixture of discoveries and challenges. I met new people, made friendships that I hope will last a lifetime and began to understand my passions and inclinations.

Like everyone else, my school experience was also turned upside down by the advent of pandemic from covid-19. Distance learning, uncertainty and isolation have made these years difficult. It was a period of great adaptation, but also of personal growth. With the return to normality, I was able to appreciate more the value of in-person lessons, socialization and the school routine. The last two years have been a crescendo of preparation and awareness. I faced questions, class assignments, projects and activities that helped me develop not only educational but also personal skills.

The last year was the most intense: I spent hours on books and participated in study groups with my classmates, between moments of confidence and others of discouragement.

With high school graduation upon us, I experience a mixture of feelings: anxiety and the desire to demonstrate the fruit of my efforts, but also already nostalgia for these years on the benches that are about to end. I feel ready to leave school, but also aware that I am closing an important chapter in my life. Despite the uncertainties and fears, there is one great excitement for what’s to come: be it university, work or a period of pause and reflection. I am ready to face the future with the awareness and maturity that these years have given me.

Being a high school senior today means having a wealth of unique experiences, marked by global and personal events that have shaped our path. Looking back, I am grateful for every moment, every lesson and every person: I thank friends who shared laughter, tears and hours of study; and the teachers who guided me with patience and passion. With a heart full of hope and determination, I am ready to write the next chapter of my life; and that every step is an opportunity to grow even more!
