There is no evidence that Covid vaccines cause ALS, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s
Descriptive text here

A clip is circulating on Facebook where the well-known dentist appreciated by anti-vaxxers, Elvino Vatteroni, is seen listing a series of controversial statements on the alleged danger of vaccines against the new Coronavirus. Let’s discover them together.

For those in a hurry:

  • A clip circulating on Facebook shows a well-known dentist making a series of controversial claims about Covid vaccines, which he links to serious illnesses.
  • The connection with ALS, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s derives from old No vax hoaxes that have been debunked for some time. Even today, there are no known triggers for these diseases, we only know that there may be a genetic predisposition.
  • The connection with Kawasaki disease is even more controversial, as this pathology was linked to Covid-19 in children well before Covid vaccines came into circulation.

Analyses

Shares of the clip on the alleged dangers of Covid vaccines are accompanied by click-bait slogans such as “let’s save the children” or “this video was super-censored”. In the video we can hear in particular the following serious statements from the dentist:

“It’s not a vaccine but a gene therapy”, and as such it kills many people but “they don’t say it”.
Covid vaccines can in particular cause you to suffer from “autoimmune diseases”, such as “ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s” and many others. In particular, they would cause Kawasaki disease in children.

Vaccines as gene therapy

The idea that mRNA or viral vector Covid vaccines are gene therapies is an old No vax cliché that has never been proven, the result of the distortion of data on new generation vaccines, which play on the fears of misinformed people. Below we report a brief selection of our previous analyses, where we showed – with sources – that this narrative is completely unfounded. There is nothing in vaccines that can modify our DNA causing derivative damage:

Vaccines, ALS, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s

Unfortunately, the causes of diseases such as ALS, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s remain unknown, although genetic predisposition certainly plays a role. There is no statistical data demonstrating a link between these diseases and any vaccine.

The one that sees vaccines linked to “prion diseases” and other neurodegenerative diseases is an old No vax hoax, also supported by Luc Montagnier, as we had seen here. Colleagues also took care of it Politifact. You can start everything from a study published on Microbiology & Infectious Diseasesthe magazine belongs to the publishing house SciVisionlisted as potentially predatory on Jeffrey Beall’s blacklist.

The author is the well-known immunologist and anti-vax activist John Barthelow Classen – we explained in our article -. In previous publications he had associated vaccines with type 1 diabetes, through the release of interferons. In this narrative however, Classen links vaccines to prions, pathogens that can modify the conformation of proteins present in the brain. Similarly, according to the author, vaccine mRNA would behave like a prion. Classen supports all this through a theoretical article, without presenting any evidence. It is emblematic that the author cannot even rely on Vaers, the American database of spontaneous reports of adverse events. Anti-vaxers usually get it right, because they list everything suspicious that happens following vaccination, without verifying a causal link. Well, at the moment there are no reports of Alzheimer’s, ALS or prion disease associated with anti-Covid vaccination.

Vaccines and Kawasaki disease

In fact, several researchers have suggested that Kawasaki disease may be associated with Covid-19, well before vaccines against the disease were authorized. We had discussed it in several articles, mostly prior to December 2020:

Conclusions

We have seen that Dr. Vatteroni’s statements on vaccines intended as gene therapy linked to serious diseases have no foundation and have already been refuted by the facts.
