The Sondrio Prosecutor’s Office has ordered a psychiatric assessment on Antonio Monticellithe 60-year-old originally from Verona, son of Anna Maria Squarzathe 91-year-old woman whose lifeless body in an advanced state of decomposition was found by the police on Friday 12 April in the Aprica apartment where she had moved with her husband since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some neighbors alerted the military: once they entered, they found not only the body of the old woman, but also her husband Giorgio lying in bed in serious conditions, next to his wife who had died a few weeks ago and was taken to hospital, where she remains hospitalized and whose right leg, which had become gangrenous, was amputated.

His son Antonio, meanwhile, has been accused of abandonment of incompetent persons and concealment of a corpse. The autopsy on the woman’s body established that her death was not violent, but probably caused by prolonged abandonment. Obviously the evolution of the story will also have to take into account the conditions of the woman’s husband, as well as the result of the psychiatric assessment on her son.
