Although the Louvre is always at the top of our ranking, Parisian museums have had different luck. There Fondation Louis Vuitton has grown to almost 1.6 million visitors in 2023, surpassing the record of 1.4 million in 2017: then thanks to an exhibition of masterpieces from the Schukin Collection, last year thanks to the pairing Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat (662 thousand visitors). Also the Musée d’Orsay did well, with 3.9 million visitors (+6% compared to 2019), while the Center Pompidou it fell by 13% compared to 2022 and by 20% compared to the pre-Covid-19 period.
In Germanythe most visited art museum is theHumboldt Forum in Berlin, inaugurated three years ago, with 1.7 million visitors in 2023.
In Italy, the museums at the top of the ranking are in full swing (thanks to the recent appointments of the directors of autonomous state museums), with several benefiting from record attendance. TO Florencethe Galleries of Offices recorded the highest turnout ever with 2.7 million visitors (which rose to over 5.1 with Pitti and Boboli; +15% on 2019), as well as the Accademy’s Gallery, which with two million admissions surpassed the 2018 record of 1.7 million. Also for the Egyptian Museum of Turin, which celebrates its bicentenary in 2024, was a record year, exceeding one million visitors for the first time with 1.1 million in 2023 (+25% on 2019). Meanwhile, with almost 6.8 million visitors i Vatican museums they drop by 2% compared to the record figure of 2019, but are still well above previous years.
In the Nordic countries, the Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo with 1.2 million people it has been, since the year of its complete opening, the most visited art museum in Scandinavia. In Finland dominates theAteneum Art Museum with almost 534,000 visitors (+20% compared to the 2017 record), in Denmark there National Gallerywhich had an exceptional year with 617 thousand visitors (+58% compared to 2019).
