Rai presenter Caterina Balivo revealed the discovery of an unthinkable disease: it was all the fault of the city where she lived
Catherine Balivo this year he has focused on his entire afternoon program “The right time”. After months of speculation about its possible cancellation, it now seems that Rai wants to promote it for next season as well.
Knowing the presenter, however, it is also possible to make predictions on the hosting of another program that could replace this year’s one.
Initially the program’s performance was not fully satisfactory, with ratings often below 10% share, and this is the only reason why Rai could give up on continuing it. However, we are quite sure that Balivo’s contract will be renewed being one of the most popular names in recent years regarding afternoon and prime time TV programs.
The presenter interviewed some time ago by the magazine OK Salute and said some dramas of his private life, who tried to keep away from work so as not to appear tense during live TV broadcasts. Her son’s illness decided to to have her open a non-profit organization called ‘Citizens for the Air’,whose first objective is precisely to defend the right to breathe clean air.

As we know, in 2024, several newspapers covered the scandal of polluted air in the Milan area and then in the rest of the Po Valley. Pollution levels were far higher than the quantities allowed by Europe, the indicators showed almost a doubling of the amount of fine dust. Milan has been reported as one of the most polluted cities in the world, reaching the top three places in the ranking.
Although it is difficult to understand in the short term what damage dirty air does to our lungs, more and more people are realizing that their children’s asthma is not related to allergies but rather to the presence of too much pollution in the air. In this regard, Caterina Balivo decided to tell her tragic experience to the magazine OK Salute.
The Rai presenter talks about her son’s illness and the only possible cure
“Guido Alberto, who is now 7 years old (ndr: now in 2024 10 years) when he was younger he suffered from a constant, persistent cough,” Caterina Balivo explained, speaking of her son. He was a robust child, who never lacked appetite, and all the tests he underwent, even the most specific ones, always defined him as healthy. Until a doctor gave the diagnosis: Balivo’s son suffered from a chronic cough due to the city’s pollution. At the time the family lived in Milan and it wasn’t that hard to believe the doctor’s words.
“So we followed the doctor’s instructions to the letter: the only possible cure was to change the airso every weekend we organized ourselves to spend a couple of days away from the city, at the seaside or in the mountains” the Rai presenter continued to explain during the interview, adding that she had decided to move to Rome permanently with her whole family to try to avoid the intensity of the smog in Milan.
Rome does not excel in air quality but it is much more open, has a milder climate and has many green parks, all of which means that it almost never reaches the pollution levels of Milan. Fortunately, with these precautions the boy recovered and is now living much better.
