Titanic It’s a film that certainly needs no introduction. Directed by James Cameron and released way back in 1997, the film inspired by the true transatlantic tragedy that occurred in 1912, ended up becoming a new classic of the seventh art. Above all, the impossible love story between the noble Rose (Kate Winslet) and poor Jack (Leonardo Dicaprio). The first travels in first class, the second in third, after having won a ticket for the Titanic thanks to a good poker hand. Without having much in common, except their desire for freedom, the two end up getting closer and closer, to the point of falling in love and facing the terrible hours together after the impact with the iceberg.
Although it was released almost thirty years ago, Titanic continues to be much loved by the public, who always record record ratings with every television broadcast. And this love makes it so Titanic continues to be a topic of conversation: whether it’s the director’s statements explaining why Jack couldn’t survive, or the more recent ones from Kate Winslet, who commented on one of the most iconic scenes of the feature film. Among the many unforgettable moments of James Cameron’s film, the one in which Kate Winslet climbs onto the bow of the ocean liner, saying “Jack, I’m flying” it is undoubtedly the one that has entered the collective imagination the most, so much so that it is also mentioned in many other films, such as the famous one Love Actually.

And Kate Winslet – recently seen in the excellent series – has returned to talk about this scene The Regime – during an interview given to Vanity Fair, in which the actress retraces some stages of her career, reviewing the films in which she appeared. As for the “incriminate” scene, Kate Winslet recalls that she struggled to breathe because of the costume she was wearing and which gave her the sensation of having her breasts directly under her chin. Kate Winslet explained: “Filming this scene was a nightmare. Leo couldn’t stop laughing, we had to turn it over at least four times.”
Kate Winslet explained that director James Cameron wanted to shoot the scene with a particular light, but the sunset kept changing, to the point that Kate Winslet had to hide in her costume everything necessary to redo her own makeup and also that of Leonardo DiCaprio who , despite appearing natural, she was wearing a lot of makeup and even tanning lotion. So, when the moment of the kiss came, not only did Kate Winslet keep banging her knees against the railing of the (fake) bow, but she also found herself covered in DiCaprio’s make-up and it was the same for him, and the two began to chuckling at the absurdity of a scene that posterity would perceive as extremely romantic. In recalling all these “problems”, then, Kate Winslet also made fun of her co-star’s kissing skills.
Reviewing the moment of the kiss, in fact, he said of DiCaprio: “My God, he’s a romantic, huh? It doesn’t surprise me that every girl in the world wanted to be kissed by Leonardo DiCaprio, but she is not at all what you imagine.”
