Carlo responds well to cancer treatments and he seems to be doing much better. But the difficulties he faces aren’t just about the disease. Many problems come from his family. Starting with Prince Andrew who was spotted in Windsor with a dejected expression after they were released photos of the Royal Lodge, where he lives, which is falling to pieces. It is likely that this time the King will not grant another extension to his brother and make the eviction effective. Meanwhile, Harry arrived in London without Meghan Markle.
Harry is in London
Harry has arrived in London without Meghan Markle and without their children Archie and Lilibet, to attend a series of events on the occasion of the anniversary of the Invictus Games, before taking part in the main ceremony which will be held tomorrow 8 May at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
It is the first time Harry has returned to England since last February, immediately after Charles announced that he was suffering from cancer. The Duke of Sussex will not meet the King.
Carlo inflexible against Andrea
A year after his coronation, meanwhile, Charles remains faithful to his plan for a streamlined monarchy. We need to save and maintain our assets without wasting the Crown’s and taxpayers’ money unnecessarily. The King does not want to make the same mistake his mother made with Frogmore Cottage, the home that the Queen gave to Harry and Meghan Markle after their wedding. The two spent staggering sums of money to renovate it, many of which came from taxes, and only lived there for a few months. Carlo evicted them last year, even though he wants to resume relations with them. AND now it’s Prince Andrew’s turn.
The latter was forced to leave his royal duties, and with them his income, because he was involved in the Epstein scandal. Andrea was left with the Royal Lodgewhere he has lived for 20 years after signing a 75-year lease at £250 a week.
The Royal Lodge is falling apart
The estate spans 98 acres and includes a vast building consisting of 30 rooms. The maintenance of the house costs 400 thousand pounds a year and its total value is approximately 30 million.
Carlo had already intended to evict Andrea some time ago, because he was unable to to pay the rent and to maintain the estate. But the Prince, who has no known income, convinced his brother to leave it to him with the promise that he would take care of the property. Which he didn’t do, judging by the photos that have circulated of the pitiful conditions in which the Royal Lodge is found. Blackened and peeling walls, increasingly deeper cracks, mould they pop up everywhere.
It seems that Carlo has summoned Andrea, who among other things also risks the 249,000 pounds of royal compensation due to the scandal in which he was involved, to discuss the Royal Lodge issue and that the result of the meeting would not be in favor of his brother King’s.
According to sources close to the Palace, the King no longer tolerates Andrea’s negligence and would no longer believe his promises, given the state the estate is in. In fact, the Prince’s expression as he left Windsor appeared rather worried and sad.
Andrea moved to Royal Lodge with Sarah Ferguson in 2004 and after losing his titles and roles, the house represents something of a stronghold for him. But evidently for a little while longer, because Carlo is inflexible.
Carlo wants to fix things before the inevitable
Also because, following his illness, he wants to sort things out in time and leave nothing to chance. In other words, the King wants to leave, whenever possible, the Crown properties and the family fortune in order. For this reason he has adopted a hard line. The accounts must be corrected at all costs and the financial difficulties of the Monarchy must be remedied. This is one of the objectives he has set for his kingdom and which he intends to implement before his death.
