Users Damaged by 1.2 PureTech Don’t Give Up: Compensation or Nothing

When the French get angry, it’s hard to calm them down; a long history of revolutions, strikes and movements teaches us this. A slightly hyperbolic intro, we admit, but it helps us to describe what is more or less happening against Stellantis and 1.2 PureTech engine problems.

This particular engine, now in its third revised and corrected generation, has by now acquired a very bad reputation. Over the years its timing belt has brought many problems to thousands of users, many of whom are now asking for financial compensation for all the inconveniences they have suffered. The problems have also reached Italy and the rest of Europe, but in France a law firm – Christophe Lèguevaques’ firm, which also opened a campaign for the C3 and DS3 airbags – now wants to take the Stellantis Group to court. After having collected 4,800 registrations which could now even double, the studio asked the automotive group to compensate the users damaged by the 1.2 PureTech enginebut it seems that the company has not accepted – again. In recent years Stellantis has nevertheless made some proposals to angry users, but according to Christophe Lèguevaques the company has tried to shift the responsibility onto users, “when instead we all know it’s an engine problem”the lawyer said. Stellantis offered a small compensation to those whose engines failed (from 2,000 to 4,000 euros), in addition to the warranty extension up to 10 years and 150,000 km starting from the sale.

Stellantis also said it was available to certify the quality of the engines in case customers wanted to resell the cars, which have obviously become difficult vehicles to place on the used market. The large automotive group, the fourth largest in the world, would also be willing to reimburse 159 euros in legal costs to individual users who have signed up to the class action. However, all this does not seem to be enough for users affected by the problems of 1.2 PureTech, which is why the battle now risks moving to court. Without an agreement between the parties, a judge will decide whether the users of the Class Action are entitled to compensation or not.
