Road trips, the best cars of 2024 for the summer season

Summer is now upon us and there are many families already planning their holidays. However, from this point of view, Italians are very lucky, given that they have wonderful destinations not far from home. Precisely for this reason it is very popular in our country the holiday on the road with your own car. A means of transport that allows you to have great flexibility, in short, ideal for those who want to enjoy Italy from North to South, one village at a time.

For this type of trip, however, it is a good idea to choose the right car since it will have to indirectly contribute to the relaxation and enjoyment of the holiday. A comfortable, fast and reliable car, in fact, allows us to spend more relaxing days. Precisely for this reason it is good to pay attention to the vehicle to be looked after for these long journeys.

The best on the highway

According to a study conducted by carVertical, there are 8 cars that are truly ideal for this type of trip. Even in this case, however, a distinction must be made between various types of holidays. Matas BuzelisHead of Communications of carVertical spoke on the issue as follows: “Driving for many kilometers to go to work or reach your holiday destination can lead to severe wear and tear on your vehicle. If you need a car for long journeys it is best to avoid large SUVs as they are heavy and noisy at high speeds”.

As regards motorway travel, carVertical recommends 3 cars in particular that offer excellent sound insulation, high-level suspension and plenty of power for long, relaxing journeys:

  1. Mercedes-Benz C-Class: one of the most famous cars from the Stuttgart company. In production since 1993, it has already received 5 versions, the last of which in 2021 with the W206. New it can be found for 54,850 euros, used for 5-year-old models it can be found starting from 15,000 euros with an average price of 28,000 euros.
  2. BMW 3 Series: in production since 1975, 7 versions have been made, the last of which, the G20, arrived on the market in 2019. New it can be found for 51,700 euros. Used, however, again for 5-year-old models, ranges from 12,500 euros with an average price of 27,000 euros.
  3. Alfa Romeo Giulia: in its new meaning it has been in production since 2016 and is the “youngest” of the three. While waiting for the new model, the current version is sold new starting from 43,988 euros. Used it can be found starting from 15,000 euros with an average price of 25,000 euros.

Affordable alternatives and small city cars

Naturally, there are also alternatives to the cars listed above at lower prices. These cars are ideal for young families who need more space inside the cabin. Among other things, these cars also have efficient engines that guarantee low consumption, which never hurts:

  1. Peugeot 508: on sale since 2010, it has seen 2 versions, the last of which was completely revised in 2018. The starting price for the new one is 38,170 euros. Used cars, on the other hand, have an average price of 22,500 euros, but can also be found for 13,500 euros for models with 5 years of experience.
  2. Skoda Octavia: in production since 1996, we reached the fourth version baptized in 2019. New it can be found for 29,500 euros. Used, however, it has an average price of 14,500 euros and starts from 7,500 euros.

Finally, there are cars suitable for moving around the city, the more compact ones that guarantee greater agility for navigating city traffic. These vehicles may offer less space in the passenger compartment, but they are easier to park and offer low fuel consumption:

  1. Fiat Panda: the queen of city cars, at the top of sales in Italy for years. New we find it for 9,700 euros, used instead it starts from 5,000 euros with an average price of 8,500 euros.
