The 18-year-old revealed that earn over 4 thousand euros per week as a commercial assistant in Australia, i.e. taking care of the management and maintenance of mining sites and equipment, and costs for food and accommodation are covered by his employer.
FIFO jobs: what it means
Rocco is a worker Fifoan acronym for Fly-in-fly-out and means to fly from the city to the mining site and, after finishing the required period, fly back to the city. As reported by the DailyMail, with an entry-level position the 18-year-old earns over 4 thousand euros a week and holds the role of commercial assistant.
«It’s easy money – declares Rocco -. You make three times what you would if you worked in the city, food is paid for, rent and flights too. If you are young, then start. I’m not saying it’s a profession to keep for the rest of your life, the point is really not to stay here for 30, 40 or 50 years. You start when you’re young, you make money and then you invest it so you don’t have to think about it again for the rest of your life.”
Rocco reports earning $2,556 for 11 hours of work, five days a week, Monday through Friday. The hourly wage is 46.48 dollars, a figure that rises to 70 on Saturdays and 117 on Sundays. The average salary in Australia for this role is between $60,000 and $75,000, Seek reports, and there is currently a shortage of workers in the mining industry in the country.
The Australian Resources and Energy Employer Association (AREEA) has released a report saying the mining industry will need 24,000 new workers over the next five years, to support new projects underway across the country.
