The growth continues electric and plug-in hybrid cars, which in April recorded a 25% increase year-on-year, according to data published by EV-Volumes. In total, 1,221,181 vehicles were registered, equal to 18% of the marketan increase of 2% compared to April 2023.

Analyzing the figures in detail, the fully electric cars (BEV) they almost scored 800,000 deliveries, with growth of 14% and a market share of 12%. Cars plug-in hybrids (PHEV)for their part, have seen a significant 51% jumpconstituting 35% of total plug-in sales, equivalent to approx 430,000 unitsfor an overall market share of 6%.

In the first four months of 2024, total sales exceeded 4.5 million vehicles, representing 17% of the global automotive market. Of these, BEVs totaled 2.9 million units, with an impact of 11%, while PHEVs reached 1.6 million registrations, corresponding to 6% of the market.

As for the best-selling models of April, the Tesla Model Y it remains the most popular electric car, despite a 7% drop in sales compared to the previous year, with 68,586 units. However, BYD stands out in the ranking: the Chinese manufacturer occupies six of the top 10 positions, with several cars not currently present in our country. Immediately behind the Tesla Model Y we find the BYD Songwhich sold 61,324 units, including 10,869 BEVs and 50,455 PHEVs.

BYD itself dominates the ranking of the brands that sell the most, thanks above all to the many Plug-in Hybrid proposals. In April the Chinese company sold 309,062 units, reaching 918,799 units since the beginning of the year; Tesla is second, with 486,661 cars in the first four months of 2024 and 98,947 cars in April, confirming itself as the best if only fully electric cars are considered.

BYD and Tesla also dominate the ranking of automotive groups, where they occupy first and second place respectively, with 20.8% and 10.8% of global registrations. On the lowest step of the podium we find the Geely-Volvo group, with 7.8%.
