airbag at risk, but parts are missing

Federconsumatori Lecco is receiving several reports from users who have received a recall letter from Citroën or DS Automobiles for the inflation system of the Airbags produced by the Takata company. “The chemicals contained in these inflators may deteriorate over time, exposing the driver and passenger to the risk of the airbag inflator rupturing with excessive force in the event of an accident, which could cause serious injury or death,” it reports the note received from motorists.

The company, in light of this risk, asks customers to immediately stop driving the vehicle and invites its customers to contact an authorized repairer as soon as possible. Here the second problem arises: users, in fact, report that repairers report that they do not have the necessary spare part and therefore it is not possible to carry out any intervention. Users who took their vehicle to the garages authorized for repairs therefore had to choose between returning home with the faulty vehicle, at their own risk, or depositing the vehicle at the dealership until a later date, waiting of receipt of spare parts.

A situation that is causing damage and inconvenience to many citizens, who are rightly alarmed at the idea of traveling in a car that represents a risk to their safety and that of others. We find it completely incorrect and disrespectful that companies do not hurry to remedy the problem, making available as a matter of urgency the spare part essential to safely put the vehicles affected by the recall back into circulation. It would be a duty, in our opinion, to provide at least the free rental of replacement cars or the reimbursement of any costs incurred by the user for this purpose.

Federconsumatori Lecco is available to provide assistance to those who have received these communications from Citroën/DS Automobiles. The Federconsumatori desk is located in the Lecco Chamber of Labor building in via Besonda 11 and is open from Tuesday to Thursday from 9am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4.30pm. To make an appointment you can call 0341 488270 or send an email to [email protected].
