Giorgetti’s warning: “Stellantis? We are nobody’s slaves”

He holds the dossier Stellantisbut Giancarlo Giorgetti don’t stand by and watch. The production activity of the bodywork of the Mirafiori plant will be suspended for the entire month of May, while the solidarity contract has been activated for the 1,174 employees employed on the 500 electric line. The tension between the group and the government is palpable and based on the recent utterances – or rather threats – of CEO Carlos Tavares, the main critical issue is linked to incentives for electric companies. On this point the opinion of the Minister of Economy is clear: “We are not slaves to anyone, neither Europe nor Stellantis, we need to create incentives but in an intelligent way”.

Speaking on the sidelines of the presentation of the AI4Industry Foundation, the Italian research center for artificial intelligence dedicated to automotive and aerospace in Turin, Giorgetti underlined that the incentives “they are done where Europe asks us to support the new green frontier so one can discuss whether or not it is appropriate to finance the change of car or the renovation of the home but this is the direction”. We remind you that Giorgetti recently met Stellantis number one John Elkann to take stock of the industrial projects underway.

The minister was also present at the event Adolfo Urso, who was keen to clarify that the Mirafiori case has nothing to do with incentives. Mirafiori also produces the electric 500 and last year 2,118 were sold in Italy, with incentives, highlighted the owner of Enterprises and Made in Italy: “The electric 500 was designed for foreign markets, as demonstrated by last year’s sales data. The Mirafiori issue therefore concerns the collapse of Maserati sales in China, the drastic reduction in sales of electric 500s on the European market”. As regards incentives, the new plan is currently being examined by the Court of Auditors. The comparison with Stellantis is continuous and the objective is always the same, one million vehicles produced in Italy in the shortest possible time.

At the center of the presentation of the AI4Industry Foundation is obviously theartificial intelligence and Giorgetti spent important words on the topic. The owner of the Treasury underlined that Italy will invest one billion and 700 million in the next five years. “But it’s not so much the deployment of resources that counts as spending them effectively,” The clarification first focuses on the importance of exploiting skills and professionalism in the manufacturing sector: “If we focus on artificial intelligence on this then we can have our say when applied to manufacturing”. For the Turin Foundation “we start from automotive and aerospace but the boundaries are not pre-established”. Another dossier at the center of attention is that linked to ITA and the Northern League minister expressed confidence in the operation with Lufthansa and in the ongoing negotiations in Europe: “It’s a long job, sometimes exhausting, you need to have a virtue that works in any sector of life and even in politics: patience.

I am patient and also confident”.
