Renewed design, cutting-edge technology and powerful engines. On these three pillars Cupra gives a touch of freshness to the Formentor and Leon, two of her most popular models, which brought her to immediate attention. On the day of her birth, the House of Martorell seemed like a rather bold bet: born from a rib of Seat, she proved to the skeptics that she was right.

The continuously growing numbers reward the goodness of the design, based on attention to detail and a dynamic approach. Indeed, the brand has overshadowed the parent brand, protagonist in recent months of some rumors about a possible withdrawal, later confirmed by the number one on the Board of Directors of the Volkswagen Group, Thomas Schafer.

“shark nose” front

The first exclusive model of the Cupra range was the Formentor, 100% internal production, the result of work in perfect synergy between the style center and technicians. Like her sister, she now receives upgrades from an aesthetic point of view, including an even bolder “shark nose” front.

The glance offered by the front area is remarkable, enlivened bythe Matrix LED headlights with triangular light signature and large grille. As for the rear, the triangular design of the lights has its own reason: it increases the overall appeal of the vehicle.

The Cupra logo integrated on the bonnet represents a sort of signature. Since customization is one of the current frontiers of the automotive sector, the color palette includes two new matt shades, Century Bronze and Enceladus Grey.

At the same time, the interiors have also taken a leap forward. Among the additional elements, the redesigned central console attests to the desire to continually evolve, without ever resting on its laurels. Media content is now shown on one 12.9 inch diagonal touchscreenwith backlit cursor.

Developed in collaboration with Sennheiser Mobility, the 12-speaker hi-fi audio system elevates the sound experience to heights never reached before. The sustainable approach is highlighted by the materials used, with the seats in recycled microfibre (mostly) and ecological leather.

Injection of grit

The two renewed models also have interesting cards to play on the engine front, including petrol, mild-hybrid, diesel and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) units. The new generation of PHEV releases 272 hp (200 kW) of power and an electric range of over 100 km, compatible with direct current fast charging up to 50 kW. The non plus ultra is, however, represented by the Formentor’s 333 HP petrol TSI

“CUPRA Formentor and Leon together have driven the brand to success as it expands its presence around the world – observes Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Cupra -. It’s an approach that has been very successful with almost 600,000 cars delivered since the brand launched in 2018.”.

The CEO continues: “The new Cupra Formentor and Leon are pure obsession with design. Two models created to arouse strong emotions and which strengthen the extraordinary bond with our Tribe. Two models that represent what that small group of car enthusiasts dreamed Cupra could become a few years ago”.
