Until now, we have talked about the Xiaomi SU7 in terms of sales results: in just 28 days, in fact, the SU7 has sold over 78,000 units, but is that all we can say about this sedan? No. Its electric motor is actually very innovative. Let’s take a closer look at it.

The development of the SU7’s electric motor was first and foremost an internal Xiaomi project; this choice, which took some time, however put the company in a position of great autonomy and little dependence on external partners. However, she certainly didn’t do everything alone, the powertrain development process was the result of a collaboration with the company “Inovance Technology”.

For the future, Xiaomi is also preparing a new powertrain for which the brand would have deposited well 155 patents, of which 60 have already been officially approved. This engine will be positioned above the V6 and V6S engines already present in the SU7 range, which respectively deliver 299 and 347 HP of maximum power and 400 and 500 Nm of maximum torque each.

The new electric motor, destined to also equip future models, promises to deliver a maximum power of 578 HP and a maximum torque of 635 Nm. Furthermore, it was designed to be used with rear drivetrain, allowing mating with a front engine in all-wheel drive systems. This strategy aims to compete with high-end models such as the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and the Tesla Model S Plaid.

A notable technical aspect is the engine’s ability to reach i 27,200 rpm, thus surpassing the engines of its main competitors. Although not officially confirmed, it is estimated that Xiaomi’s electric motor can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 2 seconds and reach a top speed of 300 km/h.

However, what really sets Xiaomi’s V8 engine apart is its extraordinary efficiency, equal to 98.11%, with an energy loss of less than 2% and an energy density of 10.14 kW/kg. This new engine will be available (for now only on the SU7 unless new proposals from the brand) in 2025. The official announcement of this new powertrain is scheduled for the end of 2024. Within the next few months, Xiaomi SU7 will also arrive in Europe, precisely in Spain.

In addition to the improved engine, a new version of Xiaomi SU7 is expected which will include a battery composed of LFP cells based on a CTB architecture. With an energy storage capacity of up to 101 kWh, the range, according to the CLTC approval cycle, is expected to exceed 800 km.
