Incessant rain since yesterday evening, flooding first Lambro and then the Seveso and the orange alert remains for the next few hours. Hundreds of firefighters intervened since the early morning. MM teams are also working to free ATM manholes and underpasses to restore tram and bus lines interrupted or diverted due to flooding. In the afternoon the Prefecture activated the Rescue Coordination Center for reports of flooding in the metropolitan city, mainly of roads and cellars. In via Bormio a man who was stuck in a shack by the waters of the Lambro was rescued by the firefighters while in Masate, in the province of Milan, the children of the Suor Rufini nursery school were evacuated from the structure following the increase in water level.

Meanwhile, the controversy between the Municipality and the Region over the lamination tanks, necessary to contain the floods, is reignited. “We continue to tell the Region that all the tanks are needed immediately – said the Security Councilor, Marco Granelli, explaining that “we need to hurry. The Senago tank is not yet ready, even though the works had begun before those in Milan, then Lentate and Paderno. We hope to succeed, but the flood is getting closer and closer. The Lambro instead it caused the regurgitation of the manholes in Pontelambro, enlarging the neighborhood and the public housing.”

“Thanks to the activation of lamination tanksalready implemented by the Lombardy Region, which limit the floods of the Lambrowe are facing a truly difficult situation and containing even heavier impacts on all the municipalities downstream, in particular Milan, Monza and Cinisello Balsamo – explained the councilor for Territory and Green Systems of the Lombardy Region, Gianluca Comazzi adding that “however the concern is not over and the attention remains very high”. “We tell the Municipality of Milan and in particular the competent councilor – he continued – to pay more attention to ordinary maintenance, in particular to that of the hydraulic network and rainwater which is flooding underpasses, roads and various areas of the city ”.
