The new 2024 car incentives will start in May, with updated thresholds compared to last year’s provision. But how much is the contribution by purchasing a combustion or hybrid car?

The Meloni Government has in fact allocated 402 million for internal combustion and hybrid cars, unlike electric cars which received 240 million and Plug-in Hybrids which can count on 140 million.
For a combustion or hybrid car to be compatible with the Ecobonus it must meet two simple requirements. Its emissions must be understood between 61 and 135 grams of CO2 per kilometreFurthermore, the selling price must not exceed 42,700 euros including VAT. Compared to previous years, the calculation of the contribution is slightly more complicated, in fact it depends on the car you intend to scrap.
Let’s start step by step, therefore: those who don’t have a polluting vehicle to scrap cannot get any bonuses on combustion and hybrid cars. The same applies if you intend to scrap a Euro 5 vehicle, the bonus is zero. If the car you own is Euro 4, then the bonus is 1,500 eurosa share that rises to 2,000 euros if you scrap a Euro 3, while for Euro 0, 1 and 2 vehicles reach 3,000 euros. It’s not much, we know, but it’s clear that the Ecobonus is designed above all to scrap polluting vehicles in exchange for green, electric or Plug-in Hybrid cars.
Standard thermal or hybrid vehicles still emit a lot of CO2, a vehicle with 135 g/km (the maximum limit for the Ecobonus) emits more than 1.3 kg of CO2 every 10 km travelled, so you understand that they’re not so green. After 100,000 km, the same car will have entered the air 13.5 tons of CO2which is why it is really important to choose cars that have the lowest possible CO2 emissions – as long as you care about the air you breathe and let others breathe.
