The most stolen cars in Italy in 2023

MANY, EVEN TOO MANY – According to the report released by LoJacka company specializing in alarm systems, and based on data from the Ministry, in 2023 in Italy there has been a growth in vehicle thefts by 7% compared to the previous year for a total of 131,679 units (including 31,856 motorbikes), of which however the 44% he comes recovered, therefore 57,938. According to the report, the trend of the last ten years (2013-2023) highlights that in Italy 1,550,000 vehicles were stolen (i.e. cars, motorbikes, vans, etc.) of which only 609,000 were recovered, while 939,500 disappeared in nothing.

BEWARE OF THE KEYLESS – According to LoJack, more than one in three thefts involve vehicles equipped with systems of opening keyless (with opening and closing of the passenger compartment without inserting the key), which are stolen by thieves also thanks to the use of technological devices, which can often be purchased online for a few euros.

THE REGIONS MOST AT RISK – Thefts have increased somewhat throughout Italy. First and second place for Campania And Lazio, with 26,045 (+9% compared to 2022) and 16,912 episodes (+12% compared to 2022), respectively. They follow Puglia (14,978), Sicily (13.174) e Lombardy (9,750 and +15% compared to 2022). Campania and Lazio are also the regions in which the recovery percentages remain lowest, at 36% and 35% respectively. There are eight safest regions in Italy, where abductions do not reach 600 cases per year: Basilicata, Valle D’Aosta, Liguria, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Marche, Molise, Trentino-Alto Adige and Umbria.

THE MOST STOLEN MODELS – The ranking of most stolen cars in 2023 (see tables below) does not record any major changes and in 54% of cases it concerns the following models, which are also among the most widespread in Italy.

AND IN EUROPE? – According to data released by LoJack, referring to 2021, theItaly is in second place among European countries in terms of vehicle thefts, preceded only by France. The others are clearly separated from the Germanythird, with only 39,000. Below there classification complete.
