Archives and libraries, heritage to be protected in emergencies. The theme of the care and protection of these places, repositories of often unique and non-replicable information, will be at the center of ‘The importance of prevention in archives and libraries: How to manage emergencies’, a conference and practical demonstration scheduled today in the premises of the municipal library of Castel Bolognese. The appointment, after the floods of May 2023, starts from the idea of networking and developing a training activity to develop awareness of the risks and possible preventive and emergency actions that allow us to deal promptly with events that can irremediably damage cultural heritage. The event, promoted by SOS Archives and Anai Emilia-Romagna, was held in Castel Bolognese precisely to remember the flood emergency of May 2023, when the two warehouses of the historical archive and storage area of the Municipality were invaded by water and mud. The material was recovered to be transferred to cold storage where it still remains today, waiting to raise funds for drying and restoration. The day will be divided into two parts; in the morning from 9 am the conference with interventions by expert archivists and prevention technicians while from 2 pm in the Town Hall square there will be a demonstration of recovery of goods affected by flooding.

The event is organized by Sos Archivi as part of the Sos Heritage project, co-financed by the EU in the Creative Europe program, in collaboration with the Municipality of Castel Bolognese, Unione della Romagna Faentina, Emilia-Romagna Section of Anai Italian National Archives Association and the University of Bologna.
