“A free man meeting with Nicola Gratteri” is the title of the first appointment of the 31st edition of the literary review “Books on the crest of the wave”, scheduled for Wednesday at 8.15pm in the churchyard of the Santissima Annunziata church, in the historic district of Gaeta Medieval. The guest of the event promoted by the Tuttilibri bookshop of the brothers Enza and Riccardo Campino will be the 65-year-old Public Prosecutor at the Court of Naples, a role he has held since September 2023. A magistrate and writer originally from Gerace, in Locride. He is one of the leading figures in the fight against organized crime: he has lived under guard since April 1989, but this does not prevent him from assiduously meeting students, and his latest work “Il Grifone”, written together with the essayist Antonio Nicaso describes exactly how technology is changing the flight of the ndrangheta in an increasingly interconnected world, where distances are canceled by a click and virtual meeting places are replacing real ones. Even the mafias are learning to adapt and are entering the digital space as if it were a new territory of conquest. The Calabrians Gratteri and Nicaso illustrate this metamorphosis by citing figures and documents, demonstrating that the mafia, and in particular the Ndrangheta, now acts on a global scale, dealing drugs, laundering money, carrying out financial scams and selling weapons in every part of the planet . The evening will be embellished by the musical homage of the Solis String Quartet, a string formation with an international scope – they have numerous recordings to their credit, among the most recent those to Carosone and the Beatles – born from the meeting of four musicians, composers and arrangers: Vincenzo Di Donna (violin), Gerardo Morrone (viola), Luigi De Maio (violin) Antonio Di Francia (cello). A shuttle bus will be active from 6.30pm to 8pm every 15 minutes from the car park of the former Avir glass factory and will resume its run at the end of the evening.
