Andrea Paggiaroin art Combed Thunder he was one of the most relevant figures in contemporary comics. Passed away in 2021, at just 45 years old, he left many traces of his work, works, sketches, ideas and is one of the sources of inspiration for young people who are approaching the art of comics. In his name, in Pisa, his city to which he was deeply attached, a festival entitled “Giorni di Tuono” has been taking place for three years, dedicated to comics but also to music and cinema. The program was presented this morning, will start from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th June, thanks to the Tuono Pettinato Foundation, with the contribution of the Municipality of Pisa, and promises a series of events even richer in terms of number of guests and events, all at free entry, “keeping the ‘Thunder’ character solid, with a sly and ironic look to decode reality.

Among the main guests Bruno Bozzettoauthor of extraordinary animated films such as “Allegro non tanto” and “West and Soda”, who will present his autobiography “Il Signor Bozzetto” – written together with Simone Tempia (already author of “Life with Lloyd”, illustrated by Tuono Pettinato) – and his latest cinematographic work “Sapiens?”, and Adriano Carnevali, creator of the legendary “Ronfi”, which recently became an animated series for Rai YoYo. There will be also Mario Natangelo, the caustic cartoonist of Il Fatto Quotidiano, who will talk about his recent intense graphic novel “Cenere”. Also among the prominent names of the festival Davide Toffolo, cartoonist and musician in the ‘Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti’, who, with the show “Remotti. The last old man on Earth”, will be among the protagonists of the concert on Saturday 8th at Giardino Scotto together with the bands Divulgazione and Inferno. Toffolo himself will curate a public reading of “Nevermind” to music on Sunday 9th at the Cinema Arsenale. Other exceptional names are those of Silvia Ziche, famous Disney designer and author of ironic graphic novels, e Vincenzo Filosaamong the most refined contemporary cartoonists, author of the recent “Il Saraceno”, involved (with Maicol & Mirco) in a reflection on the alter ego in contemporary comics, in an event in collaboration with the Fumetti & Popcorn exhibition.

Alessandro Baronciani will present the new edition of “A Comic Story”, also containing unpublished drawings by Tuono Pettinato. In a tribute to Alan Turingon the day which marks seventy years after his death, we will talk about the interaction between art and information technology with Francesca Riccioni And Claudio Francesconiwhile in the panel “Young peace” they will be presented, together with Don Emanuele Morelli and Don Antonio Cecconi“Waking up the dawn” by Roberto Lauciello And Andrea Piccardo and “Until the last one sings again” with La Tram. There will be no shortage of Super Friends: Maicol & Mirco he will be questioned about his new comic “Fables for psychotherapists” and will present his VR show “The story I have never drawn”, while Doctor Pira will delve into the themes of his crazy new volume “Dragon Blaze G” with the public and LRNZ he will talk about his involvement in the making of the feature film “The secret of Liberato”, which will be screened before the usual “Maratuona”, the nocturnal film marathon, as Tuono liked, which will close the festival.

Among the scheduled exhibitions, the Graphics Museum will host the original drawings of “Nevermind”, Tuono Pettinato’s masterpiece dedicated to Kurt Cobain – the leader of Nirvana who tragically passed away 30 years ago -, recently reprinted.

During Giorni di Tuono there will also be the award ceremony for the third edition of the Tuono Pettinato Prize, won by “Malanotte. The curse of the Pantafa” by Marco Taddei And The Came, to which an exhibition of the panels taken from the comic will be dedicated at Studio Gennai. And it is La Came who is the author of the poster of this third edition of Days of Thunder, in a successful encounter between irony and horror, where Thunder walks, whistling and sipping a lemon tea, in a disturbing forest, a typical element of Tuone’s comics and the turning point of the events told in ” Malanotte”.
But the exhibitions don’t end here: don’t miss “Storia humid” at the Concept River gallery, with tables taken from the graphic novel of the same name by Spam the Psychic Mandarin – to the century Roberto Guerinoni -, winner of the first Tuono Pettinato scholarship, promoted by the Foundation with the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and Coconino Press; “Alan Turing in comics” at Ottica Allegrini, with the panels of “Enigma” by Tuono Pettinato and Francesca Riccioni, a tribute to the scientist who passed away 70 years ago; “Drain You” at Cantiere Sanbernardo, exhibition of Tuono Pettinato’s illustrations for the “This Is Not A Love Song” cassette.

During the festival, it will also be possible to visit the exhibition of comics created by girls and boys from Pisan schools involved in the “Magnifici Lavativi” laboratory, a comics course which involved over 350 primary and lower secondary students with exceptional teachers such as Alice Milani, Giovanni Timpano And Margherita Meini.

Combed Thunder (Andrea Paggiaro, Pisa 1976-2021) is one of the most relevant figures in contemporary comics. Self-taught, he founded the Super Amici collective (with Dottor Pira, Maicol & Mirco, Ratigher and LRNZ) and soon established himself with his witty and original style, winning prestigious awards (Premio Satira di Forte dei Marmi, Gran Guinigi at Lucca Comics, Premio Boscarato at the Treviso Comic Book Festival). He defends the right to leisure, but is nevertheless very prolific: in addition to creating graphic novels, he collaborates with magazines, writes screenplays, has an intense activity as an illustrator and teaches Humorous Comics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Disengaged and highly cultured at the same time – his stage name is stolen from Borges’ Library of Babel -, fascinated in equal measure by extreme rock, literature and cinema as by rubbish TV, he displays a biting and refined irony. Among his main works, the biographies “Garibaldi”, “Enigma. The Strange Life of Alan Turing” (with Francesca Riccioni) and “Nevermind” about Kurt Cobain; the scientific dissemination of “It’s not the end of the world” (with F. Riccioni); the fiction of “Corpicino” and “Chatwin. Cat by force, stray by choice.” In his memory, by will of his parents, the Tuono Pettinato Foundation was born, which deals with the dissemination of his work also through a prize to promote the reading of comics, a scholarship at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and the “Days of Thunder” festival.
