Lurago, there is a town that reads. The book house has been inaugurated

Lurago is a town that reads and encourages reading in all its forms. The second book house of the municipal library “Rosa Maria Picotti” was born. It was inaugurated outdoors, in the “Ragazzi di Beslan” public park, in the heart of the town, on Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII.

And reading obviously does not and must not have an age: for this reason the house was inaugurated on the occasion of the readings of the “Born to Read” volunteers, readings organized in the park for children aged three years old together with their families. Established in April 2015, as explained by the president of the library Giovanni Molteni, the House of Books joins the library lending service. It is entirely managed by a group of volunteers, who weekly arrange and replace the books exposed to the users. The offer ranges across a vast range of literary genres (from classics to modern fiction, from non-fiction to children’s books) and often includes themed releases on the occasion of historical anniversaries or national and international celebrations.

The main objective of the activity is to give a second chance to books donated by private citizens or to library volumes which, due to regulated asset management needs of the library system, cannot be included in the catalog or are no longer accessible for loan . Secondly, the Casa del libro aims to promote the reciprocity of sharing: in fact, unlike library loans, those who benefit from it can decide the fate of the chosen book: exchange it for another, return it, or give it as a gift. A small house was already active in the Municipal Palace, now the second one arrives: «The creation of new distribution points was in our program – comments Molteni – It is our intention to continue our commitment and promotion of the culture of exchange, positioning new access areas to the bookcrossing service in public parks”.
