Books: Salomone-Di Vincenzo, “Conversations on the Origin of Man”

To celebrate 150 years since the publication of “The Descent of Man” Of Charles Darwin the volume of has been released in bookstores Salomone-Di Vincenzo for the publishing house Espera.

For many years I have been collecting notes on the origin or lineage of man, without any intention of publishing them“.

But rather with the determination not to publish, as I thought that otherwise I would only add prejudice against my opinions“.

It seemed sufficient to me to have indicated, in the first edition of myOrigin of species‘, that from this work light would shine ‘on the origin of man and his history’“.

Which implies that man must be included with other living beings in any general conclusion, regarding the manner of appearing on earth“.

With this incipitin 1871, Charles Darwin published in London “The Origin of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex“.

Completing that revolution that began more than 10 years earlier with “The Origin of Species” which defined the way in which today’s men look at themselves and nature.

The anniversary of Darwin’s book

To celebrate this anniversary the book “Conversations on the Descent of Man 150 years after Darwin” edited by Flavia Solomon And Fabio Di Vincenzo.

Solomon And By Vincenzo they embarked on a journey backwards to rediscover the origins of the human being.

All with the complicity of Pablo Echaurrenwho donated some of his works to accompany the volume’s iconography.

The authors have replaced the objects with some key words to compose an essential lexicon capable of linking the work of Darwin to current scientific and philosophical research.

On what? On man and his origin.

[…] we must recognize, at least it seems to me, that man, with all his noble qualities, with the ‘sympathy’ he feels for the most degraded, with the benevolence extended not only to all men but to the humblest living creatures, with the his almost divine intellect which has penetrated the movements and structure of the solar system, with all these enormous powers, he still bears imprinted in his physical structure the indelible imprint of his lowest origin […]“.

Through the reflections resulting from 19 short conversations with important scholars, the authors tried to convey the complexity of the human being.

Thus giving voice to the still alive debate around our becoming and our being human.

With the lights and shadows of every existence, with the doubts and challenges of every creature that daily tries to restore that vital balance that allows it to exist.
