Promote inclusiveness also in reading: the traveling library inaugurated

SAN VITO DEI NORMANNI – This afternoon, Monday 29 April at 5 pm, at the “Giovanni XXIII” municipal library of San Vito dei Normanni, in the presence of the mayor, the municipal council and numerous majority and opposition councilors who have specifically suspended the session of the civic assembly, the traveling library was inaugurated, an initiative shared by the consortium for the creation of the integrated welfare system of the Br1 social territorial area and by Edizioni La Meridiana with the aim of offering the possibility of learning about, browsing accessible books and venture into accessible reading.

In the presence of the regional guarantor for people with disabilities, Antonio Giampietro, of the city guarantor for people with disabilities, Dario Siciliano and of Elvira Zaccagnino, director of Edizioni “La Meridiana” and of the “Readers on a par” project, Silvana Errico, mayor of the town, to underline the importance of the initiative and the specific value that it has taken on in San Vito dei Normanni with the evident sharing of the political representatives of the citizens, schools and families.

“For 5 years, with ‘Readers on par’ we have wanted to reiterate the right to be able to read – underlined Elvira Zaccagnino, director of the “La Meridiana” editions -. The initiative was born from the La Meridiana editions which brought together publishers, who question themselves on everyone’s right to read with accessible books and this is the meaning of the traveling library, but here we have the pleasure of speaking to all the city’s politicians about silent books and highly readable books and other methods of books to ensure that information is truly and culture reach everyone”.

And after the thanks of the city guarantor for people with disabilities, Dario Siciliano, “because our kids, in San Vito, will be able to take advantage of this and because through reading we will guarantee greater inclusion and a broader knowledge of how things can be accessible thanks to technology”, a word from Antonio Giampietro, Regional Guarantor for people with disabilities, teacher and writer. “These initiatives first of all say that the other is a resource and not a problem it changes our lives – he added -. With books and access to information we will be able to live a dignified life and it is reading that allows us to claim our rights”.

“It will be a week of guided tours, meetings, presentations and free workshops with over 200 accessible books in symbols, braille, silent books, lis and highly readable books”, explain the organizers, recalling that participation is open to associations , to schools, to every citizen and that the whole process is truly a unique moment to talk about and experience inclusion through reading, giving practical implementation to the guiding thought of the initiative: «Reading is a pleasure, that it is accessible is a right”.
