“Stop wasting, it’s time to recycle. You must not ruin the Earth.” The girls and boys of the primary school of the ‘Benedetto Croce’ comprehensive school in Quadri also say it in verse, composed on the occasion of the environmental education project ‘If you recycle I’ll reward you’.

Ecolan’s initiative, after Lanciano, stopped in Quadri, involving around a hundred small pupils also coming from the Pizzoferrato and Villa Santa Maria schools. In exchange for a plastic bottle, each boy and girl received a book of fairy tales as a prize, from Puss in Boots to Goldilocks and the Three Bears, from Around the World in 80 Days to Gulliver’s Travels, from Pinocchio to the Fox and the grapes.

Happy for the day of celebration in which they were protagonists, the boys and girls illustrated the work they had accomplished to the president of Ecolan, Massimo Ranieri. Gathered in groups, some made a model of the ideal city and others made a model of the ancient civilizations of the rivers; who created the tree of life with flowers made from recycled plastic cups; who built piggy banks and flower holders with recycled paper and cardboard. And also short poetic compositions with the theme of respect for the environment and the value of recycling. “The children did some great work and also explained to us how they did it,” comments President Ranieri on the sidelines of the event.

A plastic-eating collector is installed in Quadri which distinguishes the PET in the bottles from other plastics. The device is activated with a QR-code, each plexus of the IC “B. Croce” has one. “Differentiating plastics helps us obtain greater revenue from the sale of recycled material, with which we mitigate processing costs, especially energy, which ultimately fall on the member municipalities – explains president Ranieri – For the delivery of the PET bottle it is it is important that the label with the bar code is not removed, as it is a sort of identity card of the material being differentiated and which certifies its quality”.

The project, born from an idea of Telemax and the Amelie association, saw an initial theoretical part, developed with classroom lessons on the topic of recycling, with engineer Letizia Finamore from Ecolan. The boys and girls of Quadri’s IC were coordinated by the teachers: for Quadri, Lorenza Desideri, head of the school, with Maria Pia Ciccarelli, Tania Marchetti, Dora Di Biase and Maria Marcone; for Pizzoferrato, Silvana Tarantini, Barbara Cecchini, Milena Pasquarelli and Maria Ragnelli; for Villa Santa Maria, Pina Teti, Giovanna Bonanno, Miriana Fofi and Giuseppina Fagnilli. The mayors of Quadri, Assunta Fagnilli, and of Villa Santa Maria, Pino Finamore, president of the unitary committee of the similar Ecolan control, also participated in the initiative.
