“An extraordinary protagonist of the artistic and cultural scene”

The cultural and artistic world of Faenza is mourning the passing of Nevio Bedeschi. He was born in Faenza in 1935 and his first approach to the world of art came by attending the Minardi School of Drawing under the guidance of Roberto Sella and Francesco Nonni; subsequently he obtained the diploma of Maestro dell’Aarte at the Gaetano Ballardini institute. His artistic activity began in the mid-1950s, experimenting with painting and various graphic techniques with works of a realist nature and taking inspiration from social issues. Linked to substantially figurative canons, Bedeschi proposed a personal expressive language rich in symbols and transfigurative elements of visible reality, related to other scenarios that arose from history but also from the news of his time.

As the mayor Massimo Isola: “With the passing of Nevio Bedeschi, Faenza loses an extraordinary protagonist of its artistic and cultural scene. Nevio was one of those artists who contributed to building a collective artistic imagination known to a large part of the city. Over the years, his painting has entered many homes in Faenza as well as being the protagonist of countless exhibitions. Nevio was a cultured person and his highly refined works allowed him to go beyond the borders of Faenza, making an important contribution to Italian painting of the second half of the twentieth century. But Nevio Bedeschi was not just this. For many and also for me Nevio, as he wanted to be called, was a teacher for decades at the Faenza high school where he met and frequented thousands of students, with many of whom he maintained relationships even later due to his affable and charismatic character. His passing leaves a great void in the city.”
