Carrara An important synergy that links Carrara and Mexico. White marble and art. The entrepreneur Gualtiero Vanelli and the tycoon Carlos Slim. And which sees the first big order already completed: 17 statues that will end up on the first floor of the “Renaissance” pavilion of the Soumaya museum, of the Carlos Slim Foundation

The synergy

The Tyrrhenian he told it exclusively last June. An important synergy that sees on one side the Mexican entrepreneur, the engineer Carlos Slim Helù: he operates in multiple sectors, from telecommunications, to banking and insurance activities, to the tobacco and oil monopoly in his country. He is the largest shareholder of The New York Times Company (the company that publishes the world-famous newspaper of the same name) and one of the largest art collectors in the world: he owns a Botticelli, but also works by Rodin. Slim He decided to believe in the potential of Apuan stone and the production chain known throughout the world. And also to believe in Carrara and in the entrepreneur Gualtiero Vanelli enough to enter into a partnership with him (40%) and found a new company, RC2. A new company that will deal with marble and large projects.

The 17 sculptures

They will be installed next month and for the moment it is an order shrouded in the strictest secrecy. Only the number is known: there are 17 white sculptures created by Gualtiero Vanelli’s Civiltà del Marble. A maxi order (purchased from the Carrera entrepreneur before having founded the company with Slim).

The partner

As of November 17, 2022, according to Forbes, Slim was the ninth richest man in the world, with assets of $86.5 billion and is the richest in Mexico. Companies in construction, soft drinks, printing, real estate, bottling and mining were at the center of Slim’s nascent corporate career. He later invested in numerous sectors including auto parts, aluminium, airlines, chemicals, tobacco, wire and cable manufacturing, paper and packaging, copper and mineral mining, tyres, cement, retail, hotels, distributors beverages, telecommunications and financials.

The new projects

The new, world-class projects born from the collaboration between Gualtiero Vanelli and the Mexican tycoon will start in September.

Precisely for this reason the company in via Ilice will be renovated to allow production aimed at commitments already put on the agenda by Slim and Gualtiero Vanelli.l
