One was enough drawing against the war in Ukraine to have a 12-year-old Russian girl interned in a “social rehabilitation” facility. The young girl, Masha Moskalevaduring an art lesson at school in which pupils were asked – one month after the start of the invasion – to express themselves in support of the troops of Flyhad drawn on the white sheet a Russian and Ukrainian flag and missiles traveling in the direction of the yellow-blue one with the inscription «I am against war». The gesture, however, did not please the Commission for minors in the region of Tula who, warned by Masha’s school, opened a file last month to limit the parental rights of the father, as well as those of the mother who left the family when Masha was three years old and now lives in another city. To report it is OVD-Info, a human rights organization following their case, cited by the international media. Father and daughter have been repeatedly arrested, interrogated and – in Alexey’s case, this is the parent’s name – beaten since April last year, when Masha made the anti-war drawing. Father and daughter also changed cities for their safety, but it didn’t help: the police found them last Wednesday, arrested Alexey, while Masha was taken to the rehabilitation center. Now, the father has been granted house arrest as he faces charges for which he faces jail time, but his daughter has not yet returned home.
