Are you young? You don’t eat here: the restaurant that bans entry to women under 30

Hard times for young people in restaurants. After the revival of waiters over 50 who are preferred by several restaurateurs to colleagues with fewer years (of age and experience), now it is the turn of those on the other side of the table, that is, the customers. That to be accepted they must be “a certain age”.
It happens in the USA, in a restaurant in Missouri, the Bliss Restauran in Florissant St. Louis, where youth (literally) doesn’t pay, in the sense that you can’t come in and eat the Caribbean food offered by the restaurant if you no longer have spring to eat shoulders.

To be precise, the limit imposed below which entry cannot be made is 30 years for women and 35 for men. The motivation? Maintain high “standards of their unique and sophisticated environment” and “ensure a peaceful atmosphere.”

Spokeswoman for the US restaurant Erica Rhodes said a few days ago that the requirement aims to attract a more adult clientele. And despite the many criticisms received, the owner of Bliss, Marvin Pate, who is 36 years old and therefore “welcome” precisely because of the brokenness of his cap, or plate, if you prefer, has not changed his mind and continues to defend the his choice which he explains as follows: “You can come here and really feel as if you were in a resort. People can relax as if they were on holiday.”

And what happens if someone under 30 or under 35 enters who perhaps looks older than his actual age? No “discounts” or indulgences. Anyone wishing to enter after 7pm Wednesday through Sunday must show their ID to a hostess or St Louis County police officer on site.

What many considered discrimination – considering the place – has brought a whole host of controversies to the table on social media in America and around the world where the news has spread. Although there was no shortage of those who welcomed the measure in a positive way (the older ones, obviously, happy to be able to spend a quieter evening), in fact many did not appreciate it at all. Reiterating the inappropriateness of banning entry to “categories of people” and maintaining that even adults can disturb and behave badly in public. And also underlining the disparity between the age requirements for women and that for men, as if the aptitude for more partying or confusion, depending on how you look at the situation, was a gender issue.
